Goldey-Beacom College to Host Community Open House for New Lightning Sensory Room
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wilmington, DE (04/22/2026) — Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) invites the community to attend an open house celebrating the opening of the Lightning Sensory Room on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Jones Student Center on the GBC campus.
The sensory space was made possible through the College's Sensory Inclusive Certification and Sensory Room Enhancement project, supported by a generous grant from the Eagles Autism Foundation and designed and installed by KultureCity, a leading nonprofit organization focused on sensory accessibility and inclusion.
"At Goldey-Beacom College, we believe every student deserves an environment where they feel supported and empowered to succeed," said President Colleen Perry Keith. "The Lightning Sensory Room reflects our commitment to creating a campus community where students can take care of their well-being while pursuing their academic goals. We are deeply grateful to the Eagles Autism Foundation and KultureCity for helping us bring this important resource to our students and the broader community."
The Lightning Sensory Room provides a calm, low-stimulation environment designed to support students who may benefit from a quiet place to reset, decompress, or take a break during the day. The space reflects the College's commitment to student well-being and an inclusive campus environment where every student has the resources needed to thrive.
"This initiative represents an important step forward in supporting students with sensory sensitivities while also benefiting the entire campus community," said Dean of Students Jocelyn E. Moses (Byers-Smith). "Creating spaces where students can feel comfortable, supported, and able to recharge helps foster the kind of learning environment where everyone can succeed."
Moses (Byers-Smith) continued, "The successful execution of this space would not have been possible without the exceptional leadership and vision of Director of Counseling Megan Romano. Her thoughtful guidance, unwavering commitment to student well-being, and passion for creating inclusive, responsive environments were instrumental at every stage of this initiative."
The Lightning Sensory Room is part of the College's broader commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Through its partnership with KultureCity, Goldey-Beacom College joins a growing network of organizations working to create sensory-inclusive spaces that better serve individuals with autism, sensory sensitivities, and other neurological differences.
Members of the public, community leaders, and campus partners are invited to attend to learn more about the sensory-inclusive initiative and experience the space.
