Goldey-Beacom College Professor Dr. Melvina Brown Honored with Transform Mid-Atlantic's Transformational Partnership Award

Wilmington, DE (11/13/2025) — Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) proudly announces that Dr. Melvina M. Brown, executive director of Inner Source Wellness Center and member of the College's adjunct faculty, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Transform Mid-Atlantic Transformational Partnership Award. The award will be formally presented on Friday, November 21, 2025, at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., during Transform Mid-Atlantic's 16th Annual Awards Ceremony.

"We are grateful for Dr. Brown's leadership and dedication to our community," said GBC President, Dr. Colleen Perry Keith. "Her work reflects the College's commitment to service, compassion and lifelong learning."

The Transformational Partnership Award recognizes the powerful alliance between Inner Source Wellness Center and Goldey-Beacom College - a partnership that creates meaningful volunteer service opportunities and hands-on learning experiences centered on community well-being, sustainable food systems and environmental stewardship.

"Earlier this year, we were gifted another acre of space in West Grove which brings our total stewardship to 2.25 acres of land," said Dr. Brown. "We are creating a co-op up in West Grove where we've already established four urban farming spaces and eight community garden boxes - all of which are open to the community." But that's only the beginning.

This recognition highlights Dr. Brown's transformative approach to student learning and community empowerment. Through her mentorship, social impact initiatives and immersive educational programming, Dr. Brown cultivates purpose-driven experiences that strengthen civic engagement and support the well-being of the Wilmington community. The expansive Centers include an apiary, an apothecary, and offer community-based events and education. This quiet area also serves as a healing sanctuary and frequently hosts retreats for groups.

Dr. Brown continued, "We also did a fruit, nut, and berry tree planting project about two weeks ago through a partnership with the Goldey-Beacom students as well as students from the University of Delaware's Environmental Studies Department and Black Student Union.

Dr. Brown's work includes cultivating a unique urban permaculture farm and healing space in Pike Creek Valley, Delaware, where GBC students engage in transformational learning related to community food security, social impact, wellness practices, and regenerative sustainability.
